A wooden cabin of two rooms. And a studio Above a two-car garage.
The compound is located 3-minute walk from the vibrant pocket of Pererenan beach, Bali. Designed for a family and their two adult kids, soon-to-have family of their own, the spaces are designed to focus on providing family intimacy and solitude on a tropical beach setting. The compound is composed of: two masses (a wooden cabin and a studio), a garden-scape, and a connecting bridge between the two masses.
The cabin:
Cladded entirely in Ulin shingles, its interior walls and ceilings are also wood. The cabin attempts to give voice to tropical locality through its natural wood material scheme.
Two-storey, A sense of play animates the heart of the villa with large voids for criss-cross interactions between spaces.
The studio:
In contrast with the wooden cabin, it offers a much simpler open-plan dine-lounge-sleep space and a rooftop garden for a view and sunbathing.
The connector:
In the center of the compound is a garden with a pool and a serving bar that serve as a playground and a welcome ground between the cabin and the studio. The bridge overlooking the center garden connects the two shelters, gives a sense of playfulness and joy to the compound.
All parts of the compound, except for the wooden cabin, are schematized in a mute grey cast-in-place concrete with a hope for tropical plants to naturally creep onto. Constructed during time where sustainability is a must, sun-harvesting system generates enough electricity within the compound for its people to live modestly 24 7.
